Doogie Tot

The Tot has known for quite awhile that she wants to be a nurse when she grows up....or a teacher....or a vet....or a famous person....but mostly a nurse.  If she sticks to this....consider this your warning to never need her care.

As a reminder of an old post....when Tay was 5 she decided she wanted to be a nurse for this reason:  To give people shots. (She had just gotten 5 shots for her check up : / )  I HAD good hopes that her future dream of being a nurse would evolve from wanting to help heal people....NOT quite there yet.

We were watching "Monsters Inside Me"....it's as creepy as it sounds and it's on the Animal Planet--weirder.  Basically it's a show on freak/rare medical conditions.  The episode we were watching involved a young woman that ended up hospitalized and while hospitalized slipped into a coma.  The scene cuts to two nurses trying to gently awaken the patient by rocking her and pinching her fingers.  Doogie Tot was pretty into the show and yells out (while shaking her head in disapproval)  "SLAP HER!!!  TASE HER!!!!"

Sooooo needless to say...I'm stearing her in the path of becoming a teacher...

Techno Tot

Remember when we were in 4th grade and got to use those small IBM computers to play Oregon Trail?.... Deffinately NOT what the Tot does in 4th grade...

A few times a week Tay asks to use the laptop and it's usually to play super weird computer games.  Every half hour or so I check in on her juuuuuust to make sure she's not watching inappropriate YouTube videos--again, losing her piggy bank on some poker game, creating a Facebook profile, downloading $30 worth of apps/games/songs onto my itunes account--again, or ending up on "To Catch A Preditor".

Tonight she asked for the laptop and was using it for awhile when I peaked behind her....to find.... she was in the middle of creating.... a POWER POINT PRESENTATION!! ahaaahhaaaa

I was floored considering I was easily in High School when I learned how to do that....and maybe a senior in college before I ACTUALLY needed to use it...and here sweet little Tot was creating a Power Point presentation on Thanksgiving...for the fun of it...complete with photos and the Wikipedia definition.---which I was a little relieved because 2 days ago we got into an argument about why we celebrate the holiday.   She INSISTED that the holiday was created to celebrate parades...NO JOKE.

Moral of the story... what happened to Oregon Trail????

Double Digits

I'm so excited, and majorly creeped out that tomorrow is the Tot's TENTH birthday!!  I have no idea how an entire decade just passed by!  I'm pleasantly surprised at how amazing she has turned out--considering I can't keep a house plant alive...

The tot has blossomed into a beautiful, thoughtful, helpful, respectful, humorous, smart, talented, and let's not forget the obvious...CRAZY ten year old.

I remember vividly MY 10th birthday and so badly wanted to recreate it for the Tot....probably still will throw something together tonight .... because in retrospect it was HILARIOUS....and made me realize how bratty I was....

Scene:

All of my friends over for a sleepover....it's gift time....all year I had begged for a cabbage patch kid .... I KNEW I was getting it...KNEW it!  My dad enters the room holding a box NOT the size of a cabbage patch kid box....I had scoped out PLENTY of dolls at the store and my stomach sank.  Then it dawned on me that he was pulling the ol' put it in a different box to trick me trick.  Sure enough...as I peeled off the paper it was evident this was NOT a cabbage patch doll box....no problem...I was still confident he was going to come through for me.  The box had the picture of a waffle maker on it...aaaaand as I thought about it more and more...waffle makers are WAY smaller than cabbage patch dolls.  I hesitantly opened the sealed box (clue 2 this was not going to go my way)......What....the...... it WAS a waffle maker.

Mass confusion....and fear...and nausea came over me.  I completely disregarded the group of witnesses and continued on to have a full blown tantrum about the waffle maker.  I HATED waffles (truthfully I love them...but you can't make someone feel bad if you tell them that)....I carried on to tell him I loved pancakes and that pancakes were way better and that Robin (sister) was the one that loved waffles.  WORST BIRTHDAY EVER!!!

I refused to accept the waffle maker and my dad must've been worried one of the party goer's knew how to contact social services so he walked out of the room, after giving me the glare of DEATH, and reentered with a new package....this one the size and shape of a legit cabbage patch doll....in deed he pulled through for me and I got the doll I had begged for.  Awkwardly I thanked him and attempted to restore my image for my friends....but trust me...I felt like a major dick.

Back to the Tot's bday....for the past year she has been planning her 10th bday present--an American Girl Doll....for months we had to look through catalogs and page through their website.  She agonized over what doll she should get.
This past weekend her day finally came....we went down to the American Girl store in Chicago....and it was great.  Tay was glowing she was so thrilled and so excited...and unlike me...extremely grateful.

Tonight at dinner I was talking to Taytum about her birthday and how amazing it is that she's ten and asked her what her favorite memories of her 1st decade were...I thought this would be cute and of course...funny....she didn't give me much to work with but was reliable in the expected humor dept.

"Tay what are some of your favorite memories over the past ten years?"
"seriously?"
"um...yeah...what are they?"
"I don't even remember last month and now you want me to think about TEN YEARS" (wow). "I guess if I have to pick something I would say turning 5."
"okay...why that? What happened when you turned 5?"
"Well it's 1/2 way to 10...."
"ok"
"or eating ribs....yeah eating ribs."

Hahaaa she is OBSESSED with ribs....as I'm sure you know if you've read any of the other posts.  Needless to say Taytum makes EVERYDAY interesting and we have a ton of crazy fun.  Can't wait to see what the next decade brings....although I have a feeling I will be increasing my weekly intake of wine :)

Thanks....I think...

So I may or may not have forgotten my password for the blog....combine that with being too lazy to attempt to find it/remember it....and you get Zero posts for a loooooong time.  Sorry : /
To reassure you....the Tot is still funny....and still gross.

Sickness is spreading it's way through our house and this week it's my turn.  Tay and I were riding in the car when I started hacking and coughing.  Luckily Tay is the sweetest peanut ever and offered me a mint to suck on.  Sounded perfect so I accepted....WRONG decision....it turns out the mint she was so generous to offer up was hers....that she was already sucking on.....GROSS....but expected with the Tot.

I kindly declined her slobber coated mint ....begin scene:

"No thanks, that's super gross and I don't want your germs." (She lets the dog lick her face)
"Um helloooooo....I LIVED IN YOUR STOMACH!!!  You think I liked THOSE germs???"
*silence*
"sorta not the same thing...."
"Whatever..."

Ahhhh always keeping life fun and interesting :)

Reach for the Stars....unless it involves doing something

So you've probably noticed that I haven't posted anything in awhile....it turns out 9 is the transition stage from funny and cute--to sassy and SASSY.

Soooo.....those of you with small children--soak up the funny stuff while you can...it declines quickly....and NO, you're still not allowed to lock them in the basement--I checked.

Last week the Tot was telling me that she wants to climb Mt. Everest.  Clearly not impossible....however....I don't feel qualified to teach her how to do this....at all....and it turns out, in her opinion, I'm not qualified to give her advice on reaching goals either.

"Mom, I want to climb Mt. Everest someday."
"Nice goal...do you know some things you'll have to do to prepare?"
"Probably"
"We could go hiking this weekend--that would be a good start"
"Ugh....I HAAAAAAAAATE hiking"
"hmmmm.....then maybe climbing a mountain isn't for you"
"Well....Hiking has so many trees....climbing Mt. Everest would just be a smooooooth trip the whole way"
"Well....you have to teach your body how to climb higher and higher"
"FORGET IT.....YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!!!!!!!!!!"

Tattle Tale

I don't know where in the DNA it's encoded but for some reason kids have this inate NEED to tattle.  It's NEVER important....no one is ever in danger...it's about lame, insignificant details...usually to benefit themselves.  It's also usually about someone their OWN age...not the tot...it's her mission to out me on almost everything.

Case and point:
I went and ate lunch with Casserole a few weeks ago...exiting the bathroom I see one of her classmates....

"Hi Lilly"
"How did you know my name?"
"I'm Taytum's mom...Becca"
"Oh, yeah!!! Taytum told me you swear at her"
"Oh...I don't...she made that up"

Fast Forward to Taytum getting home from school

"God dammit Taytum, why the hell did you tell Lilly I swear at you?!?!"  Hahahaa kidding....but I did ask her why she told her friend that I swear at her...

"Because you do"
"Not everyday!"

Hahaa....make sure when your kid starts talking ....you enforce the "What happens at home stays at home" law...or I guess just don't swear at them...but good luck with that!

I'm Rubber...You're Glue

A fun part of having a school-age kid is getting to hear all the old sayings that WE used...and some new ones...and I must say...kids' creativity has gone to shit.

Case and Point:

"Mom, You're Cool"
"Preachin' to the choir Tot."

Pause:  I usually send people Memorandums notifying them that I'm cool sooooo I was a little surprised she didn't KNOW this already--especially since she has her own EMAIL ADDRESS!!!...public school systems have gotten better with teaching technology earlier--I don't remember learning how to turn on a computer until 4th grade when I rocked the hell out of some Oregon Trail.

UnPause:
"Noooooo....You're C.O.O.L....Constipated, Overgrown, Oversized, Loser!!!!"
"Hmmm....that's lame....Overgrown and Oversized sorta mean the same thing....back to the drawing board TODD (Read "I'm right you're wrong if you haven't already").

I'm Right ....You're Wrong

I don't know the exact moment I lost ALL credibility with the Tot but I'm NEVER right.  Since this is NOT congruent with my personality we often spend 20 minutes or longer disputing things that are well....STUPID.

Case and Point...

While reading aloud to me, Taytum said "Aunt Carl"...so I chimed in and suggested that maybe it was Aunt Carol.
"Nooooooo...It's Carl!"
"Hmmm.....well Carl is typically a boys name so I'll tell you how to spell Carl and you tell me if it's the same"
"Whatever"
"C-A-R-L or K-A-R-L...what does it say in the book?"
(NO RESPONSE--BLANK STARE)
"It's Carl"
(I go sit by her and ask to see and she refuses to let me see it) STINKER!! So I did the mature thing and waited until she went to the bathroom and looked--it was Carol--I'm going to call her Todd from now on until she admits it was Carol.  Luckily for all of you with small children--I teach parenting classes since I'm so good at it--holla if you want in :)

I'm assuming this EVERYDAY behavior is mostly related to her being: 1) 9-years-old and 2)a girl ---aaaaaaand if "What goes around, comes around" is in fact a true theory--I'm EFFED--I was a major jerk to my parents : /

Tayter-Tot Casserole--of quotes

This is going to be like the VMAs of Tot quotes--I've been super lazy and they're building up soooo before I forget them... here are some ridic things this little Casserole has thrown at me over the last few months

-Blow drying my hair:
"Mom?, did you TRY to make your hair that color?"
"Sorta--why?"
"You look Goth"

-Just chillin'
"Mom? wouldn't you be soooo freaked out if someone lifted up your pant legs?"
"Random...why would someone lift up my pant leg?"
"Just pretend!...like you were at the mall..and someone lifted up your pant legs to see your legs--wouldn't you be soooo embarrassed?!?"
"Whhyyyyyyy would this happen and why would I be embarrassed?"
"becauuuuse--you have all those freckles!!"

-Driving to school
"Mom, I'd rather barf than listen to this song--can we CHANGE it?"

-Grocery Shopping
"Mom, do you ever scare strangers?"
"Not intentionally--whyyy?"
"I just did"

-Self Examination
"Mom? Can you tell what nipple my teacher elbowed me in?"
"WHAAAAAAT?"
"My teacher elbowed me in my nipple and now one is bigger than the other--you can totally tell! And it hurts!"
"I...can't...tell..."
"Yes you can...LOOK!"

-Pick up
"Mom? Have I had all my shots?"
(laughter)"yes, but you're not spayed, why?"
"In class today I was suuuuper itchy and Ms Sara said maybe I had chicken pox and asked if I had gotten the shot"
"yes...you've had your 'shots'"

Ear Muffs!

For those of you with babies or toddlers who have found yourself saying "I can't wait until they can talk"...this may change your mind :)

For some reason...the more quietly you speak...the more your child chooses to tune in.  I could tell Taytum to brush her teeth 27 times and get zero response...I whisper ANYTHING...and she asks me 20 questions about what I'm talking about...especially if any type of food is involved.

If you think your kid isn't listening because they are:
a) not physically in the same room
b) you're talking discretely

You're WRONG ....they're listening....case AND point...

"Mom, I told Nana something today that was bothering me..."
"What was it?"
"Well...she always tells me to come to her if something is bothering me..."
"Yep, that's good--what's bothering you?"
"Well, I told her that sometimes when I go to bed...You and Aunt Robin stay up in the Kitchen and talk bad about her..."

(Picked up dropped jaw)

Pause:  Morally, She did the "right thing" ...so I struggled with whether or not I should threaten to NOT buy the Unicorn I've been promising since she was 4 or to embrace her willingness to throw me under the bus so her feelings could be acknowledged.  I went with the later...unpause.

"Thaaaat's grrreeeat Tay, I'm glad you were able to talk about your feelings"
"Well it does bother me"
"Sorry, I'm glad you went to Nana, and you can come to me and Aunt Robin too..."

Moral of the story--your kid is always listening and they WILL stab you in the back if you talk smack about their Nana.

I am thankful for the kid's table

Most parents do a great job at instilling table manners in their kids when they turn into a human from a baby--I did.  Here's the thing--like with EVERYTHING else and kids--you have to continue to remind them how to act/behave while eating.
Imagine Tatyum at a dinner table....yes, it's as funny as you're picturing it and yes, it's as gross as you're picturing it.
It has enlightened me on why the kid's table was invented at holidays.
Several years ago Taytum interrupted Thanksgiving dinner to leave the table and show us, including my Grandma, her impression of a snake (this asside waaaaaas incredibly hilarious).  However, the look on my Grandma's face--pure confusion.  I don't think kids left the dinner table to do snake impressions back in the day : /
A year or two after that Thanksgiving Taytum interrupted dinner to get out of her seat and show us, including my Grandma, the "Sprinkler" and the "Shopping Cart" (again...hilarious...not at the dinner table--on Thanksgiving--with my Grandma) ha
THIS YEAR...the year that has determined we will be purchasing a kid's table, even though Tayter is the ONLY child...she has earned herself her own table...

Tay:  "I tricked a boy in my class the other day"
Me:  "Oh yeah?"
Tay:  "Yeah, I made him think I was barfing"
Me:  "Taytum...not now..we're eating"
Tay:  "It's okay...it doesn't get gross or anything"
Me:  "Yeah but you need to practice not talking about bodily funcitons/fluids at the table--when you eat at other people's homes they will not enjoy this"
Tay:  "I know, I don't--really, it's not gross, I'll tell you, it's really funny..."
(She proceeds to do both the actions, facial expressions, and the sound effects of actual barfing)
Me:  "Well at least it didn't get gross"
Tay:  "it was sooooo funny...he thought I was really barfing"

We will have a kid's table by Christmas!

Everybody Poops

WARNING---this is about poop and despite your denial boys...everybody poops...even girls...even the pretty ones and for the sake of this important parenting advice I'm willing to talk about my own personal poop.

I was out with some friends for my closest friends bday celebrations and we were talking about the P-word and other things that come with it....mainly before it...and even though everybody poops, for some reason we all get embarrassed admitting it.  If you are one of these embarrassed poopers...and you have a young child (<2) or will be acquiring one someday....here is your warning..

When you potty train your kid you turn into a weirdo that claps and gives trophies whenever they piss or shit.  This is the warning part...If you get super excited about your kid pooping and celebrate the event---they will get excited when you do it--and celebrate--with strangers.

True Story

When Taytum was potty training we made a huge deal out of it like everyone does--I make a mean sticker chart :)  Anyways...we went to Culver's one particular night during this 2 year process (wish I was exaggerating).  When we got inside I said to young Tayter Tot "Let's go potty first and then we'll order"

We get in line to order and Taytum turns to the man-stranger behind us and cheerfully announces

"My mom just pooped!"

Point.Case.

The Importance of Cable

Over the weekend the Reisdorf Fam was digging out the last of our garden at my Grandparents' farm.  Early this spring/summer we were planting our goodies when the Tayter Tot noticed something white in the distance....
PAUSE
I know as parents, especially when kids are younger, you fight to not let your kid watch TV.  Well consider this an argument for the defense--you NEED to let your kids watch TV--not that SpongeBob shit....but Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, PBS, etc.
UNPAUSE
...Taytum, noticing this white mysterious object, pulls from her small undeveloped frontal lobe that it must be a baby polar bear.

"Is that a baby polar bear?"
"Where?!?!"
"In the field...what is that?"
"Garbage"
"Oh"
"Plus Polar bears don't live in Wisconsin...and it's summer..."

We gave her a hard time for a day or two anytime we saw something white laying around and then life went on--and we ordered her a national geographic subscription.

Well.....over the weekend, while we were at the farm my dad noticed a white plastic bag in the field and decided to poke a little fun at her.
Despite what you may think from my blogs--we don't point and laugh at Taytum (our arms would get too tired) --she has a great sense of humor and can take it pretty well when we laugh at her/with her.

Dad:  "Tay is that a baby polar bear out there?"
Tay:  "Where?!?!?!"
After she looked EVERYWHERE....
Me:  "Well, Taytum...do you really need to look around?  We know that Polar Bears don't live in Wisconsin right?"
Tay:  "It could have walked here! From Antarctica!"
Robin: "Well...it would have had to swim..."
Tay:  BLANK STARE
Me: "You're getting a map for Christmas"

What's the Politically Correct way to say "kids are stupid"?

In approximately 2 weeks Tayter Tot will be NINE--this makes me both joyful and nauseous.  Joyful because I've succeeded in keeping something alive that long (I've had 3 house plants in my adult life and 0 have lived to share their autobiographies)  and nauseous because I almost have no idea how 9 years just passed by--there's a lot of wine involved in raising kids...
I do flash-back to her younger years often and I was recently discussing with a friend/fellow parent the "joys" of parenting young toddlers.
I will warn those of you with young children (<2) and those of you without children that may someday acquire one...the person who coined the phrase "Terrible 2's" either killed their kid or gave it away because 3's are way worse...and while we're being honest...4's are not a cake-walk either (sorry).
BUT--there is an enormous decrease in their asshole qualities somewhere around 4 1/2-5yrs of age and they are more tolerable and quite a bit more enjoyable to play with, converse with, etc.
HOWEVER---Kids are stupid--it is a scientific fact.  I wouldn't be contributing to the efforts of suicide/homicide prevention if I didn't share this with those of you who haven't figured it out or haven't experienced it first hand so this is your warning...KIDS ARE STUPID--it will frustrate you far less if you remember this.  (Again--Parenting By Becca classes are fully booked, I apologize).
This weekend we joined my sister for a slumber party at a house where she was dog-sitting.  This dog is a mix of a Great Dane and an English Bulldog--it's a "puppy" and weighs the same as Taytum but is 99.8% muscle and dominated all of us quickly.
Taytum wanted to play on the trampoline in the backyard but was afraid the dog would attack her so Robin assured her it was okay because there was an invisible fence around the yard blocking the trampoline off so the dog couldn't bother her.
PAUSE
Taytum is mostly smart--she does very well in school and can USUALLY catch on quickly...this was NOT one of those times and it led Robin and I spending almost 30 minutes of our lives telling her what invisible fencing was...it didn't matter...due to the scientific fact of kids being stupid.--I now know why "Because I said so" was so popular and I intend to use it more often effective immediately.
UN-PAUSE
We look out the window to see Taytum walking with her hands in front of her trying to make her way to the trampoline feeling out the air.

Robin:  What are you doing?
Tay: Trying to find the invisible fence
Robin: You can't feel it...
Tay:  How will I get to the trampoline?
Robin: Just go..
Tay:  Won't I get shocked?!?

KIDS ARE STUPID...funny...but stupid.

Sleigh or Windowless Van?

If "Santa" is good for one thing it's that he makes a great manipulation tool for children (Sorry, "Parenting By Becca" classes are full).  I'm certainly not the first parent to pull the "Santa is watching..." card--nor will I be the last.  Unfortunately your window for using this tactic is small--it only works for about a year or two and it expires once the kid turns 5...as I found out with Taytum.  To those of you with small children/babies--here is your WARNING...

A few years ago, after using the "Santa is Watching" bit, Tayter started to get a little concerned--and with good reason.

Whenever she needed to go to the bathroom, take a bath, get changed, etc., she would hesitate and ask "Is Santa ALWAYS watching?...like can he see me right now?"

When you play the "Santa is watching" game the last thing you want is for your kid to expose you for a fraud! So without putting much thought into my responses I would always say "Yep, always watching"...

Unfortunately they don't give awards for 'who can unintentionally damage their child the most amount of times'...I think we all know whose mantel would have a lot more bling on it if they did...

"Gross, so he can see me NAKED!!?!"
(crap)
"No, no, he gives you privacy when you're in the bathroom"
"Are you sure he's not watching me when I'm in the shower?"

Every once in awhile she will still ask me if it's "safe" to be naked.  Ahhhh, I'm not sure if Taytum will be more relieved when she finally figures out the whole santa thing or P.O.'d that she's been showering in her swimsuit for no reason : /

Biggest Loser--Extreme Edition

So the Tot and I are into the Biggest Loser.  Taytum got to be first to pick "her team"--she went with the Red Team for the main reason that she thought their trainer was cute (legit).  I scored the Black Team.  Since the show goes until 9pm and Tay has to go to bed before then--I give her the updates in the morning.
Well around 10:30pm Zombie Taytum came stumbling into the living room sleep walking/talking--to ease my fears I decided to give her the update then to distract her from harming me (again--I watched too many scary movies involving possessed children when I was younger--I'm not 100% convinced it wouldn't happen to me).

Me: "Tay guess what...bad news...your team lost this week..."
Tay: "oh...who did they kill?"
Me:  "Nooooobody....it's just a contest...nobody DIES"
Tay: (puzzled) "Oh...what happens to them?"
Me:  "They vote for someone to go home, remember?"
Tay: "oh yeah...so they don't kill them?"

That reminds me...I was going to look up the number for a therapist...

Believe it or not...

Despite the fact that I haven't aged, Taytum has mysteriously became a 3rd grader.  She brought home a questionnaire from her music teacher to fill out and return back to school.

Questions/Answers were...

Favorite Color : hot pink
Favorite Sport: soccer
Favorite Food: ribs
Favorite pet: cats

here's my favorite question/answer...

Something surprising about you:  I am kind

hahaaa...whyyyy that would be a surprise I have no idea...but funny nonetheless

Grammar Police

Dad: "Tay can you hand me one of them towels?"
Tay:  "What are you a cowboy?"
Dad: "What?"
Tay:  "It's not 'them' towels it's 'those' towels.  When you say 'them towels' (insert mocking cowboy voice) you sound like a cowboy!"

This coming from the girl who pronounced 'yesterday' as 'lasterday' for two years

Curious Taytum

I'm now convinced that Taytum is training to replace Adam Richman (Man vs Food) someday--not only because of the insane amount of food the kid can pack away but her willingness to try anything...ANYTHING

Post Cat-Food purchase (Dry kind)

"Mom? What happens after people eat cat food?  Do they die?"
"No...nothing happens"
"What do you think it tastes like?"
"Probably how it smells..."
"I'm totally going to try it, I bet it's good" (Starts to open the package)
"Pleeeease do not open that in my car and pleeeease do not eat it"
"I want to!"

We feed the cats and go home...Hours later...

"Oh man!  I forgot to try the cat food!  I really wanted to see what it tastes like!"

Next morning...

"Don't forget to remind me to try the cat food tonight!"
"no"

She is ridiculous!

Don't Forget the Lyrics

Taytum is 8 and I'm not sure if this is universal but she's always "right".  Even when we try to help her realize what the correct answer is...she insists...she's right...we're wrong.  It sounds trivial right?  WRONG!  It is annoying because she does it every day to almost everything I say!!

My favorite is when she sings--thankfully she is still innocent enough to overhear/misunderstand most radio songs so I don't even correct her--P.S.  WHO keeps writing Rihanna's songs?!?!  But there are a few I try to correct her on and she still insists on being right even when it's not logical...at all!

A few examples I can think of off hand...

Extraterrestrial
Katy Perry's Version:  You're an Alien...
Taytum's Version:  You're an Idiot...

Stuck Like Glue
Sugarland's Version:  Oh Oh Oh Oh Stuck like glue...you and me baby..
Taytum's Verison:  Oh Oh Oh Oh Snuggle like blue...

Sex on Fire
K.O.L. Version:  Your sex is on fire
Taytum's Version:  Your Six is on fire  (whew--didn't go there)

When I sang the correct Sugarland lyrics Taytum jumped in and insisted I was singing them wrong...that's when she gave me her version (snuggle like blue).  When I told her that doesn't make sense she assured me that "They are snuggling so hard they turn blue...duh"  I tried to explain the whole "Stuck like Glue" because glue is sticky...they're staying together...she just insisted that glue isn't sticky!  Ahhhh
